About the Role 
Tamatea Pōkai Whenua is seeking a skilled and experienced Cultural Report Writer to prepare a Cultural Impact Assessment in relation to the CDL Middle Road Project  
 
Project Context 
CDL is proposing to develop approximately 350 homes on the 30 hectare site between Middle Road and Te Aute Road in Havelock North, extending the existing residential area boundary further to the west, adjacent to the Iona development currently in progress. Mana whenua input is being sought to ensure cultural values, mātauranga Māori, and sites of significance are reflected in the planning and design proposal. A Cultural Impact Assessment will guide this process, identifying key cultural and environmental considerations for the developer to recognise and provide for.

Tamatea Pōkai Whenua (formally known as Heretaunga Tamatea Settlement Trust) is the Post Settlement Government Entity representing 23 marae and 43 hapū within the Heretaunga Tamatea rohe (region).  The Trust was established to receive and administer the redress of the historical Treaty grievances of Heretaunga Tamatea against the Crown. The Trust’s strategic vision of Mokopuna Mana Motuhake is driven by the three strategic objectives of Mana Rangatira, Mātauranga and Mana Tiriti.

 

Tamatea Pōkai Whenua is seeking a dynamic and culturally grounded Principal Resource Consent Planner to be a part of our taiao hub, Te Mātai Ao. This is an exciting opportunity to help grow the responsiveness of the organisation within Taiao, working closely with hapū and marae of Heretaunga Tamatea to solidify tino rangatiratanga within the rohe (region).

 

The Te Mātai Ao Principal Consent Planner is responsible for leading planning and consent processes that protect and advance mana whenua interests. The role will act as the key liaison between consenting authorities, crown agencies, and developers, ensuring Resource Management Act processes are managed effectively while integrating cultural and environmental considerations.

 

This role will continue to build capability and support tino rangatiratanga of hapū and marae, maintain strong stakeholder relationships,prepare reports to the Board, and driving continuous improvement, and health and safety practices. The successful applicant will report to the CEO.
